If you are up for some cheap thrills in the city of Cebu, probably along with friends or family, a street-style barbecue would be a good-fun idea to consider. An old-time favorite local barbecue strip in uptown Cebu sounds like a plan. Every tourist should give it a try for experience because locals are so loving it (including me). Say “hello!” to Larsian Barbecue.
This go-to Barbecue place is located in Don Mariano Cui St., Cebu City, just right beside Chong Hua Hospital, and a few a steps away from Robinsons Cybergate in Fuente Osmeña (If you are a tourist, don’t worry about getting lost, the place is so easy to find).
The place is way, way better than how it actually looks like about 10 years ago- it’s more organized in a square strip establishment and has better ventilation. The common grilling area is placed at the center of the establishment and the lighting is much better now, too. Some stalls even installed flat screen television for entertainment while customers are enjoying their bbq, and some ornaments to keep the eyes entertained while waiting for their orders.
FEEL LIKE A STAR 🌠. As soon as you enter the place, vendors will instantly flock to you as if you are a celebrity, but don’t get tricked nor shocked, and I’m sorry for spoiling that “celebrity feels” you are entitled to feel, but they are just wanting to drag you to their stall/kiosk (whatever you call it) so you’ll buy food from them, and if you are caught off-guard, you can’t just refuse and there is a possibility that you will pick the wrong stall “by-no-choice”. Yes, I know, they sell pretty much the same thing- bbq, but keep in mind that they are different sellers and their way of mixing their marinade could be different. Trust me, been there, so, I strongly suggest that you roam around first for you to see who’s got the best barbecue around the cube.
Whether you are just tripping or really on a tight budget (TINGBITS in Cebuano street lang), Larsian Barbecue is the best place for you for its value for money. Imagine, you can have something to munch for as low as P5.00php to P65.00php and up for a Cebuano version of street bbq- so tasty and unforgettable.
Of course, your barbecue is always best paired with Cebu’s POSO (hanging rice- which is also known in other provinces of Visayas and Mindanao) and a bottle of soft drink or beer (Mountain Dew or Sparkle is my personal fave). And, aside from pork and chicken bbq, they also sell seafood grill like, fish and squid. Free hot soup is also offered by some vendors.
RECOMMENDATION: If you are a first timer in Larsian, you should try their Isaw (chicken intestine), but if you have a sensitive tummy- DON’T! Eating your food is best with just your hands, wrap in a transparent small plastic bag to get more of that LARSIAN FEELS, and dipping your barbecue with their sauce plus chili enough to make it feel a little tangy (more chili on my part, though) makes your Larsian Barbecue dine experience perfect.
